The blades are precision-stamped in Germany from special-formula high-carbon no-stain steel and ice-hardened through the FRIODUR process, so they start keen and respond well to the included steel. The polymer handles are bonded to full tangs, which gives a secure grip even when your hands are slick from breaking down fruit. Because the block has more slots than knives, this set works nicely as a foundation. Add a bread knife or santoku later and the whole collection still looks intentional. Some owners are two decades into their first set.
